Time To Get a Mammogram?

Time To Get a Mammogram? If you've been putting off getting a mammogram, now there's one more reason to go ahead and schedule it: the Affordable Care Act (ACA) covers mammograms for women over age 40. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to get a mammogram at no cost to you.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women besides skin cancer. The good news is that women have a better chance of surviving breast cancer if it's found and treated early. A mammogram is a very safe way for you to get screened for breast cancer.

These tips can help you plan for your mammogram:

  • Talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often you need them. Use these questions to start the conversation.
  • Talk with other women who have had mammograms to learn more about what to expect.
  • Ask a family member or friend to go with you for support.

Check out the Quick Guide to Healthy Living for more information about getting screened for breast cancer.
