Summer is here! Spending time together outdoors is good for the whole family — but don’t let mosquitos ruin your fun.

Protect yourself from mosquitos.

Most bites are harmless, but some mosquitos can carry diseases, like Zika. Take these simple steps to prevent mosquito bites:

Use bug repellent (also called bug spray or insect repellent) on your skin and clothing. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle.

Check the label on your bug repellent to make sure it has DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus in it.

Cover up! Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks whenever possible.

Empty standing (still) water from items around your home, like old tires, buckets, or toys. Change the water in your kids’ wading pool at least once a week.

Use screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitos outside, and repair any holes in the screens.

Enjoying the outdoors this summer?

Protect your family and pets from mosquitos and ticks, too.

Tip:

Forward this email to your loved ones so they can have a fun and healthy summer, too!
